Lena Headey has caught some criticism for using a body double for her nude walk of shame on the season five finale of Game Of Thrones.

But her body double Rebecca Van Cleave has come out in defence of pregnant actress in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly.

The 27-year-old responded to criticism that using the double detracted from the emotional impact of Cersei Lannister's shaming.

But the aspiring actress disagreed: 'It should all be about the finished product, not about whose body was where and and whose head was where.'

Although she could not help but add she hopes her next role has 'my head in it!'

Cleave also discussed what it was like to perform the scene, which took three days of walking nude amid hundreds of extras.

'It was one of the scariest, most wonderful, most gratifying experiences I could have imagined,' she admitted, 'I never in a million years would have thought I would be in Dubrovnik surrounded by hundreds of extras and crew members throwing food at me, but it was amazing.'

While Lena only had praise for the young actress, telling EW: 'It takes a lot to walk through the crowd naked for three days in a row with the crowd braying at you.'

The British/American beauty's image was used in the full-frontal nude shots when Lena's disgraced character, Queen Regent Cercei Lannister, was humiliated by walking naked down the streets of King's Landing to atone for her crimes.

The shocking scenes saw Cercei's long, flowing locks being shorn off before she was stripped and made to appear in front of a screaming, mud-slinging mob.

The incredibly powerful performance, which took three days to film, involved Lena's power-hungry alter-ego being spat upon, cut, and having excrement thrown at her.

It was reported last year that producers spent an incredible $50,000 a day protecting Headey's modesty on set with 200 security guards during filming.

The star, who has appeared nude on camera in the past, later had her head super-imposed on lookalike Rebecca's body thanks to some seamless computer graphics.

Rebecca was in Dubrovnik, Croatia at the time the episode was filmed last September, revealing on her social media account she had undergone a dramatic chop much like Cercei herself.

The producers' choice of a much younger, 27-year-old model with a fantastic body will no doubt attract criticism from some fans.

In George R.R. Martin's fantasy books, part of the humiliation stems from the fact that Cercei - who has borne three children - is forced to reveal her body and all its flaws.

Lena, who has a five-year-old son named Wylie with her ex-husband Peter Loughran, recently opened up about the process of filming the emotionally-raw scenes.

She told Entertainment Weekly: It’s not hard when people are screaming at you and you look like s**t and you’re being f**king humiliated to figure out how that would feel.

'There’s a part of you that’s f***ing terrified. I can’t even imagine people wanting your blood. Cersei has done wrong, but she doesn’t really deserve this.'
