For many aspiring racing driver the opportunity to learn from the best has often been an unrealistic dream.

But that is all set to change ahead of the release of the latest installment in the Gran Turismo franchise, with the highly popular series having signed up Lewis Hamilton to become a driving mentor.

The game claims you can watch the three-time F1 world champion set reference lap times while also discovering the Mercedes star's driving philosophy.

Hamilton was left impressed by the latest in the series, Gran Turismo Sport, the first game from the 20-year-old franchise on the PlayStation 4 platform that is released next week.

The Brit claimed he was relishing the chance to help improve the racing skills of others before adding his first tip, saying: 'I would love to be a mentor for adult and kids to give guidance - if you never spin you are not trying hard enough!'

Posting the teaser video of his influence on the game on Instagram, Hamilton also admitted he had been a long term fan of the racing series.

'So excited to be your driving mentor in Gran Turismo​ Sport!' Hamilton said. 'Ive been playing Gran Turismo since I was a kid and can't wait to share my racing tips with you!'

Hamilton's focus in the mean time will be on the United States Grand Prix on October 22.

The Brit leads the world championship by 59 points from Sebastian Vettel and could clinch his fourth F1 title if he outscores his Ferrari rival by 16 points in Texas.
